COP26 - taking action for climate
COP, the United Nation’s climate conference, is the single most important international climate summit in the world, and Scotland, as both chair of G7 and host country for COP26, is in the center of attention as the event approaches. In a webinar held last week, Weber Shandwick colleagues Sofie Wikander (Sweden), Rebecca Carnie and Luke Skipper (Scotland) and Ben Stetson (England) discuss the possible effects of COP26 in preparation for the event. You can watch the webinar here.
The webinar outlines COP26’s function and framework before taking a deep dive into expected outcomes, in particular within the sectors of energy, transport and manufacturing in Sweden and the UK. It also discusses the effect of COP on EU’s climate law, which, as an extension of the Green Deal, will have great influence on countries and companies both on a national and international level. Sweden, which has a strong agenda for transitioning industry toward climate action (and will push other countries to do the same), is naturally highly impacted by these regulatory changes.
For businesses throughout Europe it becomes extremely important to demonstrate that one is part of the climate solution and show one’s progress, as well as plan for a wave of additional regulation and scrutiny after COP26. Thus, keeping up to date on the impact of COP26 on your particular industry is crucial to understand where your industry is headed.
